The company states that chips for both its remanufactured and SmarTact compatible toner cartridges for use in HP machines are now compliant with HP’s white paper, which was discussed in late October, seeing the OEM give instructions on how aftermarket chips can comply with its printer technology.
UTec stated that all of the chips used in its HP products “have […] been successfully modified to display ‘Non-HP Supply installed’”, and added that the chips now “fully comply with the latest requirements” from the OEM. The company added that the modifications “were done prior to the public announcement” of the white paper, and said that its clients and customers “should feel confident that the continued use of our products in these printers is in conformance” with HP.
UTec added in its press release: “As an industry leader in the development of compatible imaging supplies products, UTec is committed to respecting intellectual property rights, including patents, copyrights, trademarks and technical know-how, and to selling IP safe products.
“Print-Rite brand products have themselves been awarded numerous patents for their innovations, with patents and pending applications totalling over 2,100 world-wide through September 2013.”
The company spoke at a conference in October about its views on intellectual property, and noted that it has produced anti-counterfeiting trademarks for a line of its compatible toner cartridges.
